◆Job Title: Research Assistant

◆Location: New York

◆FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Perform North, South and Central American news-gathering activities for readers in Japan, including news research and on-location reports.


the Company’s Newspaper
Research news story ideas and create proposals for the Company’s Newspaper on a daily basis.

Keep up-to-date with the news through newspapers, AP and Reuter news sources, news wires, magazines, TV monitors, Internet and Lexis Nexis. Alert the NY Bureau Chief for any breaking news.

Establish relationship with the United Nations personnel and members of the media.

Collect information, set up interviews, and coordinate travel arrangements for self or on behalf of the Bureau Chief for any potential news, projects, or breaking news.

Conduct research as requested by the Bureau Chief

Perform other related duties as assigned and required.

Bachelor’s Degree in Media/Communications or any related field with 1-2 years experience in news production or media/journalism. Possess broad knowledge of topics in different areas.

Native level English. Ability to communicate in Japanese is a plus, but not required. Strong communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills. Good follow through.
Ability to drive is a plus, but not required.

May be required to work overtime during evenings and weekends to cover significant news.
May be required to go on business trips on short notice to cover breaking news.
Ability to perform work on site locations under all types of conditions including, but not limited to, extremes in temperature, weather, altitudes and depths.
May be required to travel internationally on rare occasions.
